Alchemy and Herbalism

Tools for the Alchemy

As mentioned before, an Alchemist needs herbs to create his potions, elixirs and flasks and he also needs vials. On higher levels of their skill Alchemists can perform metal transmutations as well as transmutations of certain elemental materials.

In order to perform a transmutation an Alchemist will need a Philosopher’s Stone. This stone is created at the lower level of Alchemy and an Alchemist who wants to conduct his transmutation work proper needs to keep this stone in his inventory. When used, the Philosopher’s Stone will have a cooldown which will prevent an Alchemist to perform a similar transmutation while the stone is on a cooldown.

Alchemy Specials

A higher level Alchemist can create a very good and unique trinket that only he can equip. There are different variations of this trinket depending on one’s spec. These are: Mercurial Alchemist Stone – for dps casters and healers, Mighty Alchemist’s Stone – melee dps and Indestructible Alchemist’s Stone – tanks. When equipped, any of these trinkets has the power to increase the overall effect of hp and mana pots (effect increased by 40%). Since WOTLK expansion WoW players are only able to use one potion per fight and therefore this trinket comes very useful, especially for mana consumers.

Another great thing about Alchemy is that the flask duration is prolonged. In normal circumstances a flask effect will last one hour. However, if you are an Alchemist your flasks will last for two hours! This is very convenient as well as a gold saviour.

Alchemy Specs

At higher levels an Alchemist must choose his specialization. He can become Elixir, Potion or Transmute master. When he specs for one of these he can create extra elixirs, potions or transmutes.

Discoveries

When performing a transmutation an Alchemist is able to randomly discover a completely new transmute. When it comes to elixirs and pots he will be able to discover new recipes as well. With WOTLK expansion Alchemists got Northrend Alchemy Research which allows them to discover new recipes. This research can be done every third day since it has a cooldown. To be able to perform this research an Alchemist will need Adder’s Tongue (10), Goldclover (10) and Talandra’s Rose (4) which are the herbs found in Northrend. Apart from these herbs an Alchemist needs to provide four Enchanted Vials found at any Alchemy Supply vendor in the Northrend area.

Difference between Flasks and Elixirs

Flasks and elixirs once consumed have a certain effect that stays during a certain period. Elixirs are found in two types Battle & Guardian and those are the types one can combine. Both types of elixir last for an hour but their effect stops if a player dies in battle. Effect of a flask is also one hour in duration, however, if a player dies the flask effect will not disappear. Archaeology profession

Archaeology is announced as a fourth secondary profession, unique in that it will allow a brand new customization of existing characters. Players who learn Archaeology will be able to research the ruins in all of the zones and search for the antiques just like real Archaeologists would do.

Through their research of the ruins, Archaeologists will be able to gather various unique artifacts and make notes. With the use of these artifacts, Archaeologists will be able to customize their characters and with handing in these artifacts to a Titan cult they will be able to get amazing rewards such as Vanity pets, Titles, Teleportation and Items.

Depending on the path they choose, Archeologists will be able to make new discoveries which will bring new passive skills and new abilities.

In what way is this profession unique?

All WoW professions are made to follow the progressive pattern, which consists of player’s learning the skill and leveling it up to the certain skill level in order to be able to use it for the specific craft. With Archaeology this will change. It will not have the cap skill level after which the progress will no longer be possible. This profession is designed to be continuous and therefore it could be more progressive and interesting to the players.

Reforging basics

Reforging is a skill which will allow players to customize their gear. This customization will only affect the gear’s statistics and not the looks. Maybe this will be something for the future.

Reforging skill will be available to those having Blacksmithing, Engineering, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Wearers of these professions will have an option to take the piece of the gear originating from their native professions and to change one of the stats. For example, a tailor will be able to take out some statistic from the piece of cloth armor. After altering it to the desired statistics, he will be able to return it back to the ring.

What is so special about this?

The changeable statistics will not be limited to those that are already given on the item. In example, if you have a pair of gloves with Stamina, Intelect and Spirit, you will be able to add some extra haste rating instead of Stamina.

This form of item stats manipulation will be possible on all items, not just the ones you can craft. Another good point is for the players who aren’t skilled in the given professions. They will have an option to demand service from the players who do have Reforging added to their main profession.

Leveling up Blacksmithing requires a lot of materials, especially the ore that can be gathered throughout the World of Warcraft are needed. You have three options to obtain the ore:  you can buy all these ores for amazing amounts of gold, you can transfer them from another character you have which has the Mining professions which allows one to gather the ore or you can take Mining as your second profession.

When it comes to leveling up Blacksmithing you can basically say that it is quite easy if you have Mining as a second profession. You will be able to make great items with Blacksmithing. At first you will primarily be making Weapons and Mail Armor. At some point your trainer will teach you how to make Plate and Weaponry. Plate Armor is worn by Death Knights, Paladins and Warrior which makes Blacksmithing a perfect match for these classes. At some point your Blacksmith trainer will set you off on a quest to become either a Weapon or Armor specialist.

As an Armor Blacksmith you will still gain access to most of the plans that allow a Blacksmith to craft weapons though and this also goes the other way around. You will however gain access to patterns that allow you to craft rare items. The choice isn’t that heavy though because you will still be able to create most of the good stuff that the Blacksmithing profession offers you anyway.

Once you have managed to skill up your Blacksmithing you can learn to produce quite an amount of valuable and much wanted items. These can be used by the Blacksmith himself or sold for nice amounts on the Auction House. There are a lot of epic items you can make as Blacksmith and creating Belt Buckles is also very nice. Belt Buckles can be applied to belts. Once used, you will see that you receive a socket on the belt which allows players to place a gem in their belt which makes the item better.

You also have the advantage of being able to create Socket Bracer and Socket Gloves. These can be applied on your bracers and gloves and once applied you will also be able to place a gem in them to make yourself even stronger. Socket Gloves and Socket Bracer are two items that become soulbound once created which means that the Blacksmith can only use these himself and that they cannot be sold.

Blacksmithing can make your leveling easier and more fun. Especially when you combine it with Mining you will see how easy it is to level it up and at the later levels you can make your profit out of it and create some cool items for yourself, friends, guildies and strangers. The “Chef” title has also become one of the most wanted titles since it isn’t easy to reach it. If you are going for this title keep in mind that you will have to accomplish a list of different cooking achievements. Many of the listed achievements will be based on the Outland and Northrend cooking daily quests and your knowledge of the recipes from these areas.

Why should I do the daily quests?

During your adventures in the Outlands, cooking dailies were good because you could earn some extra money, discover new recipes and receive additional food. When the WOTLK was released, WoW cooks got new fun options like Dalaran cooking daily quests. If you are on the Alliance side you will have to visit a quest giver Katherine Lee in the Silver Enclave, and if you are on the Horde side you will need to visit Awilo Lon’gomba found in the Sunreaver’s Inn. Each day you will be able to get randomly one of the five different quests: Cheese for Glowergold, Convention at the Legerdemain, Infused Mushroom Meatloaf, Mustard Dogs! and Sewer Stew

These quests will have some gold to offer you as a reward as well as the Small Spice Bag and a Dalaran Cooking Reward. The Small Spice Bag will always surprise you with a Dalaran Cooking Reward extra, more Northern spices and even some recipes. Sometimes you will be able to find some different kinds of spices like Baby Spice. Baby Spices are fun to use since they can alter a player’s size and make him smaller.

With the Dalaran Cooking Rewards you will be able to purchase special kind of recipes for stronger foods. If you manage to collect 100 of these rewards you can purchase a Chef’s hat and finish another achievement -Cooking with Style. It might seem a bit expensive, but still, the Chef’s hat will allow a cook to prepare his food much faster. Dalaran Cooking Rewards are also used to purchase more of Northern spices. The food which you can make with the use of Northern spices is the best food in game and therefore it is worth quite a bit if sold on the Auction House.

Tips for fast dailies

Since you will get a random daily quest each day you should have some things prepared in advance. For most of these quests you will need to have Chilled Meat and for a Mustard Dogs! quest you will be asked to prepare some Rhino Dogs from the Rhino Meat.
