If you take the Skinning profession you can strip animals from their skin and obtain leather, hides and scales. However, you cannot skin all types of mobs and the best types of mobs suitable for skinning are beasts. It must be said that even some of the beasts can’t be skinned like in example the birds etc. 

How to skin a certain mob?

As soon as you kill a mob you should first loot him but I guess you don’t mind doing that. As soon as a mob is looted you can move your mouse over it and if a skinning pointer appears it means that it is a mob that can be skinned. If the level of a mob is suitable for you your Skinning skill will raise. If you skin mobs that are way below your skill level you will not gain points though and if they are a too high level for you, you will not even be able to skin them.

Skinning equipment?

Skinning doesn’t require some particular equipment. The main tool for a skinner is a skinning knife. You can buy skinning knives at almost any trade goods or general goods vendor.

Other useful skinning equipment you can obtain through game are special skinning knives that give bonus on your skill. These knives are Finkle’s Skinner (Upper Blackrock Spire) and Zulian Slicer ( Zul’Gurub).

Combining Skinning and Leatherworking

Skinning is a nice profession especially when combined with Leatherworking because Skinning can provide you with all the materials that are needed for Leatherworking. Without these it will be impossible to level it. You could buy the materials on the Auction House but it would be better for your wallet if you take combine Leatherworking with Skinning.

When you play WoW a bit more often you will realize that order professions also require leather. Leather is also used with Blacksmithing, Engineering and Tailoring.

Is Skinning profitable?

We can say with certainty that Skinning is profitable simply because skins are easy to get. There are plenty of beasts around to kill in WoW. If you have a high level char then it will be really easy for you to grind any type of Leather.

For which classes Skinning is really nice

As with any other profession, a player can choose a profession he likes, even though most classes that take Skinning and Leatherworking are the ones who can wear leather, for example, Rogues and Druids. A lot of Hunters have the Skinning profession because they are the best grinding characters which means that there is a lot of leather to be found as well.

What is Master of Anatomy

In the Wrath of the Lich King Skinners were presented with a new ability – Master of Anatomy. This is a very useful ability that will rise together with your skinning skill level and will grant you a nice bonus on the critical strike rating.
