Online Bingo Going Strong

Online bingo has enjoyed massive growth over recent years. Widely available gaming technologies mean that many sites now offer the game as part of their online portfolio. Its no surprise that some of the huge online gambling sites would move first to seize market share, some perhaps unexpected entrants such as online lingerie shops have seen a demographic match between their customers and bingo – particularly in the UK, where bingo has long been a popular pastime.

The online game is every bit as straightforward as the traditional game. A “caller” (in this case automated software) ‘announces’ the numbers which players then mark off on their playing cards. Mini-prizes are given to people who complete entire rows first – and the winning jackpot is paid to the person holding the first fully completed card. What do I mean by ‘jackpot?’ – some sites give away jackpots of thousands!

Given the ease of setting up a bingo game the market is full of rival offerings who are competing for a market that some people argue has probably peaked in terms of numbers. Often using affiliates or trying to get good organic rankings in the search engines, this has led to the creation of hundreds of thin-content online bingo news sites, which help to publicise new games and promotional ideas that the operators can dream up. Inevitably, this means consolidation in technology is inevitable.

Bingo players will tell you that the game is a, lively, simple way to play games and socialise on the internet and its popularity is likely to {continue to grow~will get more popular yet~shows no real sign of lessening in popularity}. Unlike, say, poker, it isn’t assumed that the interest is just in big prizes. The social aspect is critical.

As there is no actual skill or judgement required to play bingo, literally anyone could win – for there is no way to become a better player. This element of sheer luck makes the game so popular as a social form. No bingo site worth its salt fails to have a stream of banter running alongside the game.

Many of these bingo chatrooms are ’supervised’ by an offical host, who act as both moderators and cheerleaders in the bingo chatrooms. The host’s job is to see that conversation never flags and that new players are left bewildered – getting them up to speed with the game and the sometimes bizarre-looking lingo sometimes inpenetrable to an outsider at first!.

Bingo will continue to grow as a format. Of course, other crazes will come along to eat into its audience, but as a game, it remains a package that’s pretty hard to beat.
