Can Skate 3 Hold Up Against Tony Hawk Ride?

Ever since the release of the first Tony Hawk game, the market was ruled by them, until the release of the first Skate title. However, once EA released their revolutionary Skate game, which used analog controls, they dominated the market. Releasing their second game, they gained even more of the market share, but now, with the announcement of Skate 3, will this really be as successful?

EA unveiled some video game news today that the new Skate 3 game is in production for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and is due for release around May 2010.

Not a huge amount was released regarding new features, but what we do know is that it’s going to be more focused on team events. The new co-op mode features will allow you to play with other gamers as part of an unltimate crew either online or off. Once your team has been put together, you can take part in special group challenges either online or off.

There are also a few features that are up for improvements such as Hall of Meat and Create. Not to mention a new training feature which wll you allow you to practice the tricky moves.

All this is very good, but does it stack up to their competition? For the past few years EA has controlled this market with Skate, but this could change with the release of Tony Hawk: RIDE. This upcoming Hawk release will alter the way we play skating games because it comes with a Wii Balance Board style controller, unlike any other skating game before it. I wonder if the skateboard controller really works well, will Skate 3 suffer because they are simply improving features with no huge changes.

Due to the current problems with the global economy, many people choose to not buy video games as much and then sell them after they have finished with them, I just wonder if Skate 3 will end up being sold on if it’s not worth keeping.

The only thing I can really say for sure is that I’m going to want to read some game reviews before I fork out the cash for Skate 3, that is unless they announce some features that could top other games.
