myth busters – Logitech G27 vs Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS

logitech 25

Logitech are at the fore when it comes to accessories for Gaming Seats, specifically the steering wheels – and even the speakers too. If you’ve been in a VisionRacer or a Fanatec Cockpit gaming seat system with good speakers and a G25 – then you probably had a hard time getting out, purely because you were having so much fun! So can it get better? Whats this about the G27? What will competitors do? The G27 appears on many blogs my name, although its all the same base information with little detail. There’s nothing to substantiate the existentence of the G27 right now, other than a single picture that’s been sent all around the Internet. At the same time, Fanatec have a fantastic range of steering wheels too, which really compete with Logitech. What we do know is that the G27 has a thicker wheel, LED’s on the display for the gears (not really the rev counter as you may have read elsewhere). Even after two years, nothing materialised – did it take the iPhone that long…. the myth of the G27 is being challenged? Well, prototypes are around with partners of Logitech, but will the ‘alleged G27′ ever get past this stage? Logitech aren’t the only supplier, lets look other manufacturers such as Fanatec. Fanatec and Porsche are synomous as far as Fanatec are concerned, as they have licenses original reproduction of the 911 leather steering wheel! If we take the GT3 RS Wheel (available now!), it has the same design of the original Porsche 911 wheel and is hand stitched in leather (just like the Porsche). I generally thing the Fanatec range have a greater focus on PC’s than PS3’s, which isn’t a bad thing given the upgradeability of PC’s! To get realistic road vibrations, the GT3 RS3 has feedback actuators built in – fantastic Fanatec. The advantage Fanatec have over the G25 is ABD vibration feedback – a nice touch! The pedals are aluminum with indestructible magnetic sensors (if anyone other than a German company said that, I probably wouldn’t believe them!). the GT3 RS also has a full 360 degree turn to – no limitations here!

Will the music business be destroyed by Guitar Hero?

Ever since the release of the first game, the Guitar Hero games have taken the world by storm, seeing a spin off franchise Rock band, clothing, toy figures and its own line of plastic Gibson and Fender guitars. So the question is: has Guitar Hero energised the music industry? Or put it on the path to destruction?

The charges:

  • Less people are picking up Guitar Hero rather than real instruments. Some people might not find any appeal in playing guitar anyway, but it has gotten some people to dig deeper into learning an instrument. So people who had never given a second thought to picking up a musical instrument are now doing just that. Claiming that the game is stopping people playing real instruments could say that about all video games.
  • It doesnt compare to actually playing onstage. It may be the nearest thing to playing onstage that some people ever get. All video games transfer the player to a scenario where they can live a life as a ninja, football player and thanks to Guitar hero, a rock star. Sure, Guitar hero players might never know the joy of rocking out with guitars onstage, but then, thats there loss.
  • It will damage the music industry. When the game was first anounced, the record companies were scared about music sales going down- as usual. But in truth, the exact opposite has happened. The game has given players the chance to hear music they might not have discovered otherwise, and gives the bands involved more exposure. The latest version, Guitar hero: Metallica, is going to bring the metal band to an entirely new generation of kids who’ve never heard them before. Metallica certainly arent the only band to jump on this, as AC/DC and Aerosmith has done this as well, with Van Halen also about to release their own guitar hero game.

After real Electric guitars? Visit these guys.
